3 Tips to Help You Exercise in the Summer

Well, it has happened. We’ve crossed into the horrifying 110+ degree weather. And let’s be real if you want to be an active mama that probably means things have to change in order for you to keep your workout routine and stay healthy (and sane!) and exercise in the summer.

exercise in the summerHere are a few easy tips to help you stay cool, beat the heat and exercise in the summer:

First, in order to stay cool, you have a variety of options. You can join a gym, though you may want to keep an eye out on the cancellation policy. If you are only doing it with the summer in mind, and knowing that November is a lovely time to be outside in Phoenix, try to find one that allows you to go month to month.

Secondly, you can start going to bed early, getting up early, and getting your workout done before the sun has made an appearance. I know I value my sleep, but if it means calling it quits after just one or two episodes of Thirteen Reasons Why instead of binging until midnight, so be it. You know that being a responsible mama sometimes means doing the right thing, rather than the fun thing.

Third, plan ahead. Bring water, more water than you think you need, and drink it. If you aren’t drinking water at any given time, you should be about to drink more water. The weather in the summer doesn’t mess around, and there’s no faster way to kill your workout than overdoing it without proper hydration and harming yourself.

You may find that a couple water soaked washcloths, in a cooler with ice, is everything you need to turn a miserable summer workout into at least a partially enjoyable one. You know, if you are into that sort of thing.

Do you value your summer workouts?  What are some tips you use to keep yourself motivated and safe?

  1. Ugh that getting up early thing is the pits but so true in the summer! And I never thought of the washcloth idea, especially when hiking. Great ideas!
