Foodie Friday: Flower Child

0

Ah yes, I can remember when the first Flower Child opened up off of Camelback and 44th St.  I remember tasting that first sip of kombucha they have on tap and biting into that amazing piece of grass fed steak.  I can still taste the lovely mounds of red chili glazed sweet potatoes, creamy gluten free mac and cheese and quinoa and sweet corn.  It truly was a food revolution for me and I am forever a flower child.

_DSC0255Fast forward to present day and not much has changed in my mind about Flower Child since its first opening.  I’m thrilled to announce that their newest location, their third location, will be opening up soon.  It’s located off Central and Camelback, just a hop, skip and jump away from me and hopefully you too.  If you haven’t tested out Flower Child yet, I clearly recommend the aforementioned offerings, in fact, I hardly stray from those options.  When you find something good, why order anything else?

What continues to draw me back to Flower Child is the menu, the fresh and healthy options as well as the vegan and vegetarian options.  These are great for my son and they saved me when I was going through my dairy free phase a few months ago.  Sometimes I go out to restaurants with my son and I can’t feel confident ordering him dairy free meals (you’d be surprised how much dairy is hidden in items) or meals that he’ll enjoy.  I’ve never had an issue at Flower Child, my son loves the food, the kid portion is plenty and I’m a happy camper, the restaurant is kid friendly too, picture kids playing under the table and you know, being kids.  One complaint I hear about Flower Child is that it’s expensive.  My answer to this, yes, it is more expensive than some places out there but that’s because of the quality of food.  To me it’s well worth the extra couple bucks to get a good meal for the whole family.

If you’re looking for other items to try, I’ve probably eaten almost everything from the menu and I’ve enjoyed it.  You can give The Rebel a taste, a delicious grass fed steak wrap or the winter sunshine salad filled with butternut squash, arugula, apple, clementine and more or some good old comforting madras curry.  Also, if you happen to not be into Kombucha, the lemonade is always a crowd pleaser.  My other favorite sides to get with my protein are the roasted Brussel sprouts, the asparagus (which is seasonal and not on the menu right now but oh so amazing!) and the broccoli.  The menu mostly stays the same but does offer some seasonal changes.

So next time you’re hankering for something fresh and free spirited, check out one of the three locations that Flower Child has around town and bring the kids.
