Shop and Support Local :: Holiday Markets in Phoenix

3

This year I’ve decided to make my holiday gifts or buy local.  I tend to make lots of gifts myself, because I love to make things.  Who am I kidding?  I pretty much make everything, but for things I can’t make, I love to shop and support local! Supporting local businesses is kind of a big deal for me.   As an artist and a Craftrepreneur {yes, it’s a real word, I made it too!}, it’s really important that people support my and other artist’s crafts.  Without local events, I wouldn’t have an income.  I know how much money and support really mean to each one of these makers.  It’s more than a cute gift; it’s our income and our family’s well being and we work really hard almost all year for the holiday season.

Here are the best holiday markets in Phoenix for your local holiday shopping!

Holiday Markets in Phoenix

  • Alternative Black Friday

November 25th, 2016 at CityScape Phoenix.  Over 30 local, vintage and handmade vendors will be set up in the heart of downtown Phoenix.  The best part?  There is no need to get up at the crack of dawn for this Black Friday shopping which starts at 10am and closes at 5 pm.

  • Market at MADE

November 26th, 2016 at Made Art Boutique from 11am to 3pm.  Made markets are great because they’re smaller and not as crowded. It’s in the courtyard of the Roosevelt Row boutique. There are artists set up out front and there are also local handmade products in the boutique, so you can get a double shopping experience.

  • Phoenix Flea

November 26th, 2016 at Heritage Square Park from 10am to 5pm. This event is $5 admission and benefits a local organization.  We like that it’s outdoors and selective; it has really wonderful locally made items.

  • Jackalope Holiday Fair

November 26 & 27, 2016 at WestWorld in Scottsdale.  You can shop all day, both days, from 10am – 5pm! This is perfect because it falls on Shop Small Saturday the weekend after Thanksgiving! This is a great two day event for the whole family.  This market also hosts Denver and Pasadena events, so there are often additional artists from those cities as well, which adds to the usual local market variety.

  • Crafeteria

December 2nd, 2016 at Frances from 6-10pm. Hosted by Frances for over a decade, it brings together neighbors, unique local businesses, and 40 of Arizona’s top creators of handmade goods. This one always has a great selection, and with only 40 hand chosen vendors, you know you’re getting the best of the best. Plus, since it’s at Frances you also get to check out their amazing local boutique. We like that this one is in the evening: perfect for a mom’s night out or a cool evening out with the family!

  • Hello Handmade Market

December 3 & 4, 2016 at Phoenix Convention Center, Saturday  9am to 7pm, Sunday 9am to 5pm.  Admission is $10 for adults, $20 including an exclusive tote bag and free for children 12 and under.   Shop local, vintage and handmade at this market… you can even enjoy a glass of wine or beer while you shop!

  • Phoestivus

December 8 & 15, 2016 at Phoenix Public Market from 5-10pm.  This one is perfect for working moms and is located downtown. This is another evening market, and Phoenix Public Market has a great dinner menu with tons of local ingredients.  Everything at this market is handmade.  We love that there are two dates and that it is on a weekday, so you can stop by on your way home!

  • Phoenix Festival of the Arts

December 9, 10 & 11, 2016 at Margaret T. Hance Park, Friday 12pm to 5pm, Saturday and Sunday 10am-5pm. More than 100 artists and organizations will be at the festival including food trucks and live performances!

In addition to this list, I also love Hissyfits and pop-up shops like those at The Teapot, but those often happen a bit earlier in the year, so keep your eyes open next November!  Did I miss any?  Where are your favorite local places to shop?  We’d love to hear more about your favorite local businesses too!

Happy Holiday shopping and local gift giving.
