Date Night: Dinner and Pie

0

If you’re looking for something to do for date night this week, or maybe a night out with your girlfriends, I have a great idea that’s completely different from the usual dinner and a movie. How about dinner and PIE? Sounds delicious, right? This Friday, Practical Art is holding its monthly Charity Pie Night.

Haven’t been to Practical Art yet? This interesting little shop just off Central and Camelback is a mecca for unique housewares and gifts, ALL created by local artists. I got the chance to look around for the first time during NPhxMom’s Night Out last fall. I bought these ceramic jewelry and ring holders by Lisa Harnish (pictured below on left). Actually, they were priced so right, I got a a set for me and a set for my sister! I also picked up this gorgeous vase by Annette Weaver (pictured below on right).

Ever since that first visit, I’ve been wanting to go back for Charity Pie Night and, of course, a little more shopping!

So, here’s how it works:

You donate $5 and that gets you a slice of pie. A $10 donation gets you as many bites of pie as you want! (You know what I’ll be donating.) That money, along with 10% of shop sales are then donated to a different charity each month. This Friday, proceeds go to the Area Agency on Aging. Past Pie Night’s have benefitted the Phoenix Center for the Arts, the Phoenix Zoo and the Animal Defense League of Arizona.

Now about these pies. They are all homemade, just like everything else in the shop. (So ditch the diet for one night.) Each pie is lovingly created by Karen Olson of Vonceil’s Pies. In the past for Charity Pie Night, she’s served up Mexican Chocolate, Banana Peanut Butter Cream and Jalapeño Strawberry.

So tell your hubby or BFF that dessert is on you and surprise them with pie! One more thing, be sure to bring your own plate or you can purchase one there.  Practical Art is all about eco-conscious living… just another reason to love this place!  Pie is served from 7-9pm.  Hope to see you there!!!

Emily
The last few years have brought big changes for Emily. After spending years in high-stress, deadline-driven TV jobs in East Coast metros, family circumstances brought her and her husband Joel to the Arizona desert. Now this former news junkie is a stay-at-home mom to Miles, a fast-talking toddler with energy to spare. She spends her days teaching him about faith, letters, numbers and manners. Whenever he’s asleep she boots up the laptop to write for North Phoenix Moms Blog and other freelance gigs. Whatever spare time she has left is spent on a hike with her family or a rare date night with Joel, at the gym, coffee and dinner with friends, or in her craft room creating simple, beautiful jewelry for her online boutique, Hazel & May, and giving too many treats to her pups, Pepper and Gizmo.
