The Best First Visit to the Pediatric Dentist

0

I know I was slightly late to the ballgame, as my son was a little over 2 when we made our first trip to the pediatric dentist, but let me tell you, it was the BEST first experience we could have asked for.  I’m the daughter of a doctor and I’ve spent my fair share of time in doctor’s offices throughout my life.  They’re not all created equal!  Without question, Affiliated Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics, and specifically Dr. Danielle, are breaking records with how amazing this experience was!

It starts with the first phone call.  Is whoever answers that call friendly? Helpful? Bubbly? Outgoing? Eager to help? In this case, YES to all of the above! There is nothing worse than calling a doctor’s office, (as a new patient nonetheless), to get someone on the other end of the line who sounds like you’re inconveniencing them with your call.  The appointment scheduling was a breeze.  Forms were emailed to me to fill out online ahead of time, our insurance benefits were verified, and we were set!

We showed up on the morning of our appointment and were greeted by a friendly face!  The office was outstanding.  My little guy had no problem getting comfortable and had ample time to play and explore before the appointment. Tip to moms who are going for the first time – – arrive early and let your little play and acclimate before getting called back.

We were called back on time and were directed to a small, lovely office in which we spoke with the dental assistant and met Dr. Danielle in a comfortable setting before the actual appointment.  We talked about development and my son’s history, dental specifics, and addressed any concerns that I had.  There were also toys and books in this room for my little guy, which were great!

Finally, we moved next door to a private room for my son’s exam.  Dr. Danielle examined him on my lap and was incredibly friendly (even offered to sing songs to keep him comfortable!) and kind.  She was also SUPER fast and made sure to talk me through all of the key details that I needed to make myself aware of before leaving (teeth care, what to watch for as his molars grow in, when to floss, toothpaste recommendations, etc.).  In what felt like no time, Walker went to get a “tubby toy” with the dental assistant (he went willingly and without me, which is a true testament to how comfortable he was) and returned with an adorable little frog that he played with for the rest of the day!

Moms … I’m always one to write a rave review because I think finding gems and resources in our community should be shared freely and plentifully.  We are all busy; we all want the best for our kids, and we’re willing to go to great lengths to get whatever that might be.  The good news here is — you don’t have to go far (two offices: one at Scottsdale/Shea and one in Grayhawk) and you WILL love everything about this practice.  So, pick up the phone and schedule your kiddo’s next appointment with Affiliated Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics!
