Halloween Craft Roundup

4

I love doing crafts with my daughter, Little E. We especially love crafts that are tied to holidays. Halloween crafts are particularly fun. They are easy, and there are so many great ideas out there. I wanted to share some of the crafts we did for Halloween this year with you. Most of these ideas came from Pinterest. Many of them were so easy and quick we could do them in the morning before I took her to school!

This one was one of my favorites. It’s simply a paper plate which I had E paint orange (she loves to paint!). I outlined eyes and a mouth on construction paper which I had her cut out (practicing scissor skills!) and glue on with a glue stick. Then we did her foot prints and attached them with green construction paper that we accordion folded. Fun!

We really enjoyed our TP roll Frankenstein too. I love the idea of recycling household items and using them for crafts! She painted the bottom green and the top black for his hair. I showed her on a sheet of paper what his mouth might look like and she drew that on with a Sharpie and glued on google eyes. There’s something about google eyes..kids love them!

This is our Jack-o-Lantern sun catcher. I folded orange construction paper in half and drew the parts of his face with a pencil, then had her cut the pumpkin out (again, practicing with scissors!). We then used a glue stick to glue red, orange and yellow tissue paper over the holes on the back and attached a pipe cleaner stem.

Halloween7

We loved this next one! I had Little E paint a white sheet of cardstock black and add bright yellow dots for stars. Once that dried, we added the bats (those I cut out from black construction paper).

Halloween2

For our mummy, I drew an outline on black construction paper and had her cut it out. Then I gave her many pieces of masking tape to “wrap” him. She loved this one; it was a little different.

Halloween1

Finally, we did some hand and foot print crafts. As a mom I love these; they are a fun keepsake! Some of these we have done for a few years in a row; it’s fun to dig the old ones out and see how her little feet and hands have grown!

Halloween11

Halloween10For the spider, I painted just four of her fingers and her palms. She added the google eyes and a line for him to dangle on.

Halloween6

For our ghosts, I used a hole punch to punch out little pieces of cardstock to stick to her feet over the paint for the eyes. I had her write “boo” to practice her letters.

Halloween5

For our witch hands, we used green paint and then glued on black construction paper triangles for the nails. E was a little disappointed that the witch couldn’t have pink nails.. but that wouldn’t be very witchy!

Halloween4

Lastly, for our candy corn feet, we simply striped white, yellow and orange paint on her feet (yes, it tickles!). In retrospect, I should have put the white on the bottom. Oh well.

Halloween3

We then used these crafts to decorate our trunk for “Trunk or Treat” at Little E’s preschool!

t-or-t

A few notes about these crafts: for some reason, black washable paint is very difficult to find. Obviously it’s a good color to have to Halloween crafts and washable is a nonnegotiable feature I look for in paint! I finally found some in a neon set of Crayola washable paints. If you don’t have black, brown or purple works well too for bats and spiders! I don’t keep all the crafts we do, but I will probably hang on to the hand and foot print projects. For special crafts we do that I want to keep, I use an Alex accordion file.

I hope you enjoyed seeing our spooky Halloween craft roundup! I find crafting with my daughter to be a fun way to connect with her, make memories and even incorporate some learning! Happy Halloween!!
