Walking in My Mom Shoes … All 5 Pairs

Most of us had our day where the shoes we wore were not necessarily the most comfortable.  But, damn, they looked good.  Who cares if they caused all the blisters and never mind if they made the toes go numb … it was all about the style, right?  A husband and two kids later, ain’t nobody got time for that nonsense.  These days I have my go-to mom shoes and I am totally fine with it.

mom shoes

  1. My everyday flats.  I can wear them with really anything.  They look put together and are easy to clean, a necessity when you have active little humans you are trying to keep alive on the daily.  They hold up to all the blood, sweat and mud that accompanies motherhood and still allow make me feel put together.
  2. My fancy flats. Being that I spend most of my life if workout clothes or scrubs #nurselife, I don’t have a lot of use for “work shoes.” This was certainly brought to my attention when I recently interviewed for a promotion and need to be business casual.  These are my favs; they are comfortable, affordable, stylish and fit my Fred Flintstone feet.
  3. My summer shoes. Being that we live in Phoenix and the summer brings temperatures that are on par with the surface of the sun, sandals are a necessity.  Now I get that my Birkenstocks are not for everyone (just ask my husband) but they are my personal fav.  Come August I’ll have the classic hippy feet tan to prove it.
  4. My Booties. The mom version of the “going out” shoe for me—not that I really go out much.  They are my “I need to get dressed up, but there is no way I am putting on a pair of heels” shoes.  They look cute with jeans or dresses and they instantly make you look like you tired in a causal, but cool, mom way.  In short, the whole package.
  5. My trainers or “tennies” as my mom would say. Now I am not sure when it happened, but all of the sudden, wearing trainers with a great pair of jeans or joggers has become really in over the last few years.  I am INTO it! Who doesn’t like wearing pricey clouds south of your ankles while still feeling like you look cool?

So there you have to folks, my shoe closet in nut shell.  It has been said that you can tell a lot about a person by their shoes.  Do my shoes tell my story?  Do they show people that I spend most of my days chasing after little boys and the rest of my days caring for people that are possibly having the worst day of their life?  Do they show the countless times I have walked into workout rooms or run down the street while attempting to get to a point where I am comfortable in my own skin? At the end of the day, does it really matter?

There is really no telling where my mom shoes will take me, but I’ll tell you one thing, I am going to be comfortable getting there! What are your go-to mom shoes?
