Nate + Jeremiah for Living Spaces – Advice on Design as a Career

Thank you Living Spaces for the opportunity!

Living Spaces

My son and I had the pleasure of sitting down and chatting with Nate Berkus and Jeremiah Brent about their new collection launch for Living Spaces

Nate + Jeremiah for Living Spaces is rooted in designing spaces that people can live comfortably in at affordable price points. The collection is absolutely stunning, inspired by their love of travel and using your home to tell your story.

My son, Nate (15), has always been interested in design. Since he was young, he’s always chosen what colors and what style he has wanted for his room. As he spoke with them about his interest in a career in design or architecture, they listened intently and gave valuable, heartfelt advice.

As I watched them interact with my son, Nate, I could tell that they truly wanted him to know that they were giving him their best possible advice from years of experiences, trials, and successes. They were candid, kind, and completely engaged with us.

Nate Berkus shared the three things he believes are most important to a career in design.

First, a degree in sociology is the perfect place to start. In any business that you are going into someone’s home, you have know how to understand people.

Secondly, start to look at different periods of art and architecture. Start writing down what you like. You don’t even have to understand why you like it. Eventually, you will start to see a pattern and you will realize what you love has certain threads running through it.

Finally, a business degree is a must. Don’t let people tell you that someone else can take care of the numbers. Understand costs and estimates. Understand profit and time. This will work to your advantage in the long term.

This is incredible advice! Very soon, he will be finding his own path. I’m so grateful for people who are willing to help jumpstart teens and set them on a path for success. Our time with them was something I will remember for a very long time. Nate and Jeremiah were kind, warm, and the perfect hosts. I hope they come back to Scottsdale very soon!
