A New Kind of New Year’s Resolutions

0

With the New Year upon us, we all have a chance to reset.  Drop the woes of the past year and start fresh.  It brings a time of New Year’s Resolutions.  For me, always ends up being time to set goals and intentions for the coming months that I will inevitably fall short of.

This year I’m not going to eat sugar and get rid of all unnecessary stuff in our house…”

Like most, I go strong for a few months, but come mid-February, I fall right back into old habits and eat all the cake.   There are so many reasons that our resolutions are unsuccessful.

  • They are way too ambitious
  • There a is no passion behind them: we don’t really want it
  • They are cliché or too vague
  • They are forced or made out of obligation

This year I am taking a new approach and set a new kind of New Year’s Resolutions.  Instead of trying to change my entire lifestyle in an unachievable way, I am going to try and purge the things in my life that really don’t bring anything to the table.  I am going to commit to a positive mind set, instead of focusing on all the things I am doing wrong in my life.

  1. Stop over committing myself

The preschool board, classroom mom, work commitments…not to mention spending quality time with my husband and children.  The older our kids get the more I feel like I am being pulled in all directions some days.  I feel like sometimes I need to just say “no” to things and be ok with that.

2. Stop judging myself

On that same note I intend to cut myself a break.  We all have those day were we just think we are the worst at everything.  It’s on those days that I am going to slow down and remind myself that I am not that bad.  Remind myself of all the things I do well and if that doesn’t work, I’m going to find some sleep and start fresh.

3. Stop stressing

Mostly, stop stressing about things I can’t control.  There are always going to be things that we can’t change.  Stressing about it is not productive and I’m not going to do it anymore.

4. Think positively

There is a lot that can be said for putting positive vibes out there.  I feel like if I picture my life going well, then it will.  I have said it before and probably will say again…parenting is no joke.  Whatever help I can get from the universe, I will take.

I am not naïve enough to think that because the first of the year has hit that all of the sudden I am going to free up some time and stop stressing.  It is going to take time and effort, but I am willing to put in the work to make myself a happier person.  Everyone knows if mama ain’t happy, then no one is happy.  So really, I am doing this for everyone’s sake.  What are your intentions for the new year?

No matter what your plans are for New Year’s Resolutions for 2018, we hope it is a happy and health one!
