Pinterest: Hit or Miss? Thanksgiving Banner

0

This week on Pinterest: Hit or Miss, we try our hand at making a banner for Thanksgiving. I have banners that I hang up in our dining room for my daughter’s birthday, Christmas and Halloween. The birthday and Christmas banner I bought on etsy (one of my favorite sites for hand made goodies!) and the Halloween banner I scored at Target of all places!  I wanted a Thanksgiving banner as well so I decided to hit up Pinterest for some inspiration.

To make my banner, I looked at a few different pins and kind of made it my own. First I gathered my supplies: a paper cutter, some ribbon,  glue dots, scrapbook paper, card stock, pinking shears and some sticker embellishments. At this point I am wondering if I should even take this project on.. or if it would be a better bet to order from some crafters who know what they are doing on etsy!

First, I used my printer to print out my letters on scrapbook paper.  I chose the largest font possible (288).  I chose to use the phrase “be thankful”; some other options might be “give thanks”, “Thanksgiving”, “Happy Thanksgiving” or simply “thankful”.  There are so many options when it comes to paper! I loved browsing all the available papers  but ended up selecting paper with a burlap pattern. I cut around the letters with pinking shears. You could also use the cutter to do this; I liked the rustic feel the pinking scissors gave the letters.

Then I used the paper cutter to cut out the background colors for the letters. I made these slightly larger than my letters to give them a nice border. The colors I chose reminded me of fall and Thanksgiving. But, again, plenty of options are available.

I just eyeballed the centering; one of the beautiful things about handmade projects is they don’t have to be “perfect”. I wanted this banner to look a little rustic.

I wanted to add an extra panel to separate the words in my banner. For that, I used some pretty leaf sticker embellishments I bought at Michael’s.

Next, I used a round hole punch to punch two holes in each card.

Lastly, I wove some brown ribbon through the holes. I left some length on the end and tied a small loop on each side so I could hang the banner up.

I am pleased with how the banner turned out! I think we will use it every year to make our house more festive for the fall and Thanksgiving season.

It will brighten up our Thanksgiving table! What I love about this project is that it can be tailored to make it unique for every household.

This was a Pinterest hit!
