It’s Wednesday, the day before Thanksgiving, and whether or not you are hosting for the big meal tomorrow, chances are you don’t feel like cooking (and cleaning up) an entire meal for dinner.
We have a fun and festive solution…
Many years back in Seattle, we had friends that started the tradition of hosting the evening before Thanksgiving. We have continued that tradition in Phoenix, calling it Soup Night Wednesday. We provide multiple soup options and we ask people to show up with a bread item and a drink to share. Simple enough, right? Everyone loves it. Soups can be made ahead of time, so the host doesn’t have much mess, just a few pots to wash up at the end of the night. And attending families get to go home to a clean kitchen and no dirty dishes. You can ask families to bring their own bowls and spoons (because if you’re like me, you don’t have an extra 30 laying around), or you can go the paper/compostable route. Either way it’s a great time to just hang out, and get a jump start on the holiday weekend. Because it’s pretty much perfect this time of year in Arizona, we just set up tables outside and people can eat and drink as they come. We keep it super informal and kids just run around a play as parents hang out.
Happy Soup Making

Soup is good food! What a great idea for a lighter meal the night before Thanksgiving.
