The Best Postpartum Products For All New Moms

0

As a Prenatal and Mommy & Me Yoga instructor I love supporting women on their journey of motherhood, and postpartum wellness is a passion of mine!  During a new mom’s recovery period, special focus and attention should be placed on her as she is not only recovering physically from childbirth but also emotionally as she adjusts to her new role of being a mom.

There’s an interesting article about cultural differences around the world in regards to postpartum care for women. Not surprisingly, the US ranks pretty low on how new moms get treated after their bundle of joy is born. More emphasis is placed on the new baby, rather than the new mama

Now, I may be a yoga instructor and hippie at heart, but I’m also a realist, so I understand that not all new parents have the luxury of close family to help out, and/or lots of paid time off.  So, here is a list of my favorite postpartum products and tips that will support a new mom during her recovery period, both physically and emotionally.

If you’re an expecting mama, or are attending a baby shower for a soon-to-be-mom, you will want to add these postpartum products to your list!

The Best Postpartum Products For All New Moms | North Phoenix Moms BlogPerineal Spray

Yes, your lady parts are going to be sore. I hope I’m not surprising anyone here 🙂 LoveBug V Spray is a chemical free perineal spray (made by a local doula!) that is applied after you go to the bathroom, and it can help with soreness and swelling from childbirth, episiotomies, and hemorrhoids. Tip: store in the fridge for extra cooling relief!

Supportive Boppy

Without support and proper posture while you’re feeding baby, you will quickly get a VERY sore upper back! I like this version of the Boppy pillow best. It has a removable insert so you can have a firm side and a soft side. I also like how full it is, so whether you are bottle feeding or breast feeding you can maintain a straight back and avoid hunching as you feed your baby.

Nursing Tanks + Bras

If you are nursing, know that the first 4-6 weeks after your baby is born your milk supply is still getting established. My tip is to buy 1-3 nursing tanks or bras to get you through this period, until you’re ready for “real nursing bras.” I love the soft cotton Cake Lingerie Gelato Nursing tanks, and the Cake Lingerie Cotton Candy Sports Bra. Both are comfortable enough to sleep in.

Pariday TendHer Pillows

Pariday has TendHer pillows that you cool in the fridge, and place over your nipples to relieve soreness. I like that they are thin enough that you can slide them into your nursing bra so they stay put, and you can even keep them in when you have visitors.

MilkMakers Lactation Cookies + Oat Mama Bars

Oat-mamaIf you’ve decided to breastfeed, you might be shocked by how hungry you feel all the time. A nursing mama needs more calories than a pregnant mama.  These MilkMakers Lactation Cookies and Oat Mama Bars are made with ingredients to encourage milk supply. Keep a stash of these treats on your nightstand so you can pop 1-2 a day whenever you get hungry.

Meal Delivery

Come up with a plan so during the first few postpartum weeks you don’t have to cook dinner. This is where planning ahead will really help! Ask friends and family to take turns bringing dinner each night, or every few nights, if you don’t want daily visitors. Have them sign up via this link, so the meal train is organized into one place. Alternatively, there are also local companies that offer meal package delivery such as Conscious Dining.

Lastly, ask for help when you need it and, as cliche as it sounds, sleep when baby sleeps!

What else would you add to this list of postpartum products?
