Hey Mamas, I’ve been trying to get into this whole podcast thing… I know late to the game. But, it seemed so overwhelming and I didn’t know where to start or even who to listen to or what it was all about. But lately, while I’ve been cleaning and working, I’ve wanted to have something to listen to. I wanted something to keep me creative, make me laugh, improve my outlook and relationships. Of course, that’s not really all in ONE podcast but turns out lots of podcasts can help with these topics. So, I started searching for more to share with you.
Here is a list of 20+ of the Very Best Podcasts Every Mom Should Listen To.
Let’s start with Oprah’s Super Soul Conversations. I recently did a meditation journey with Oprah, and it was huge shift in my conscience. She really is a powerful woman with lots to say; I love her views on life and how our attitude creates our reality and how we can have even more than we ever imagined. I think this is a wonderful way to listen to her and what she’s about.
Just Add Sprinkles: Celebrating Motherhood. One of own moms in the City Moms Blog Network, Stephanie Flies, shares a glimpse into this mama life while keeping us focused on celebrating motherhood. Super relateable and entertaining.
Well and Weird. A podcast focused on building a healthier relationship with food, moving our bodies and trying out some ‘weird’ practices like intuitive eating, anti-eieting, meditation and journaling. This is really a huge shift in focus with food. I feel like many moms avoid eating certain things to get back to their before baby weight, but that’s not always realistic because our bodies really changed during the process; we’re mothers! This is a great glimpse into accepting ourselves and nourishing our bodies with love while staying active.
From the Heart: Conversations with Yoga Girl. A podcast by Rachel Brathen, an international yoga teacher and speaker, and a bestselling author. She is an inspiration to millions every day. She shares commentary on living a purposeful life and talks with others to create a heart-filled podcast.
Wellness Mama. A really helpful natural mined mama who interviews many healthcare professionals to find out healthy ways to heal ourselves and our children.
Align with Plants. A mama focused on plants and how to integrate them into our lives. We are surrounded by powerful plants that can literally heal us, and so often they’re overlooked! This podcast is perfect for those interested in raising their family with natural focused healing and respect for mother nature.
Crafty Planner. Love listening to people share their stories of creativity to help inspire us on our own creative journey. On the website you can find examples of their creative works and listen to their process and what they want to share with others.
The Creativity Habit. A podcast featuring more creativity and sharing stories of artistry. This is very helpful for those mamas with stay-at-home side hustles.
You Made it Weird. Nerdist. Everybody has secret weirdness, and Pete Holmes gets comedians to share theirs. This podcast is super entertaining because we all have our weird quirks (yes, celebrities too!), and I find it really entertaining to hear people talk about how awkward they are. It ultimately makes me feel better about myself in social settings.
Dear Sugars. Radically empathetic advice from Cheryl Strayed and Steve Almond.
TED Radio Hour. A look at fascinating ideas, inspiring inventions, fresh approaches to old problems, and new ways to think and create. You’ve probably heard TED talks – the short little videos that pop up on Facebook, this is that podcast.
The RobCast. This is by Rob Bell; I’m not super familiar yet, but it came highly recommended.
Terrible, Thanks for Asking. The description states, “You know how every day someone asks “How are you?” and even if you’re totally dying inside, you just say “fine,” so everyone can go about their day? This show is the opposite of that.” Hosted by author (It’s Okay to Laugh (Crying Is Cool Too)) and notable widow (her words) Nora McInerny, this is a funny/sad/uncomfortable podcast about talking honestly about our pain, our awkwardness, and our humanness, which is not an actual word.
Invisibilia. This is apparently about unseen forces that control human behavior and shape our ideas, beliefs, and assumptions. It features a narrative storytelling with science that will make you see your own life differently. I enjoy these types of podcasts because I find them so enlightening into our human experience and how these things affect our daily life. Awareness it awesome.
Magic Lessons. This podcast is ready to help another batch of aspiring artists overcome their fears and create more joyfully; it’s hosted by Elizabeth Gilbert.
Beautiful/Anonymous. Beautiful stories from anonymous people, random phone calls from anonymous strangers. It was featured on This American Life and came highly recommended to me from some really wonderful people. It’s on my list to check out once I finish a few of these other ones.
Ear Hustle. This is recorded in prison with Earlonne Woods and Antwan Williams, currently incarcerated at San Quentin State Prison, and Nigel Poor, a Bay Area artist. The team works in San Quentin’s media lab to produce stories that are sometimes difficult, often funny and always honest, offering a nuanced view of people living within the American prison system. I find this really intriguing, and love hearing about people living a completely different life than the one I lead.
Dan Carlin’s Hardcore History. This podcast was suggested by a dad, so maybe if you’re looking for something relateable to listen with your partner, you could check this one out.
Democracy Now! Speaking of history, it always repeats itself, and this podcast is about what’s happening now that will eventually become history. Really informative.
Unladylike. This one is just right for me. “Find out what happens when women break the rules – those unwritten but all too real bullsh*t expectations of how we should live our lives.” It’s by Cristen Conger and Caroline Ervin. I need strong, empowered women who are honest, funny, and raw.
My Favorite Murder. Because sometimes moms are into creepy stuff! I personally can’t listen to these podcasts after I made humans. The thought of someone murdering another living being is just too much for me. But, then agin, sometimes it’s like a bad car accident – you just can’t look away. Or in this case, turn it off.
Serial. Okay I did totally listen to this one because I couldn’t help it. It was trending and weird, and I needed to know more. If you’re into mysteries, this might be a good one for you. But, it’s definitely about a murdered teenage girl – fair warning.
Vibrant Happy Women. And then to cheer you up after all that murder and gloom, we bring you Vibrant Happy Women, a twice-weekly podcast created for women looking to find themselves after getting lost in the stress of motherhood and life
Mysterious Universe. Let your brain expand.
And that, my fellow mamas, is the most comprehensive list I could gather in terms of best podcasts for your listening pleasure. I’m hoping to listen to all of these in the near future; many have come highly recommended to me. But the real question … is do you already podcast? If so, what are you listening to?
